Traditional Homes Prevail in Highland Park

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Highland Park homes are known for their luxury, and they have developed a strong reputation for their traditional architecture. However, many new modern homes have begun cropping up in this once-traditional Dallas community.

The Rise of the Modern Home

Modern homes in Highland Park started to become a more common sight in the 1990s, as younger buyers with a keen eye for modern design began to make their way into this exclusive neighborhood of Dallas. As such, the market in Highland Park began to change ever so slightly. In other words, the dynamic of the Highland Park real estate market started to shift from a traditional-only marketplace to one of modern design, as well.

Highland Park does have its share of modern homes, but the overwhelming majority of homes in Highland Park are still of the traditional variety. For many years, many of the Highland Park homes were begin torn down and replaced with even larger homes. It was not common to see large estate-style homes being torn down and replaced with even larger homes.

The vast majority of homes still remain traditional in Highland Park, although searching for a modern home here may also yield some results.

Traditional Homes vs. Modern Homes

The trend appears to be that builder homes, regardless of the size, are traditionally replaced after 25 years in upper class areas such as Highland Park. What that means is that there is a potential for buyers to once again replace many of the older traditional homes with their modern counterparts.

It will also be likely that many buyers will keep a traditional home, but completely transform its interior to reflect a more modern feeling.

Many of the homes currently found in Highland Park include Mediterranean and Spanish Colonial homes from the 1920s. Beyond that time, many English, Georgian, Italian and French style homes have made their way into Highland Park.
