Neighborhood Housing Services Now Part of US Green Building Council Program

Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS) of San Antonio has recently been selected to participate in a national green building pilot program called the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEEDS for Homes, program.
Green Design Solutions
NHS has begun working with the US Green Building Council Program to help establish national standards for green building. NHS is therefore incorporating design solutions in an effort to create more energy efficient homes that have a lower, environmental impact.
NHS is now currently building several homes at Green Building II level and is building the first LEEDS for Homes certified home project at Mira Vista.
Helping Families Achieve Home Ownership
NHS is the builder and lender of affordable housing in San Antonio and Bexar County. The organization has helped more than 500 families (who wouldn’t have otherwise been able to afford purchasing or repairing their home) achieve home ownership.
Buyers who meet certain income guidelines can purchase new or pre-existing homes for as little as $1,000 out of pocket cash. Financing is also available for qualified buyers.
NHS offers homeownership opportunities for San Antonio families who make between $20,000 and $45,000 per year.
NHS Amenities
Some of the amenities found throughout NHS homes include porches, landscaping, washer/dryer hookups, appliances packages, pre-wiring for cable and central heat and air. All homes are energy efficient and most home comes with a ten-year, homebuyer warranty.
About NHS
NHS has built almost 300 homes over the last 15 years, and has rehabbed another 100 existing homes. NHS has also made more than 1,000 loans which totaled more than $12 million.
NHS is a not-for-profit NeighborWorks Organization and is a Full Cycle lender. NHS also offers purchase counseling, homebuyer education and post-purchase counseling and training.
NHS’s Community Reinvestment Partners include Broadway Bank, USAA, Frost Bank and Wells Fargo. Program partners include the City of San Antonio, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the State of Texas, the US Department of Treasury, CPS Energy, Bexar County, the Fannie Mae Foundation and the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation.
