Preparing Your Home for Sale – Inexpensive Flooring Solutions
By Grace on Aug 1, 2008 in Seller Tips
If a complete kitchen remodel or a bathroom tear-down is not on your list of things to do before selling your Irving home, don’t fret. All is not lost. There are many inexpensive solutions for sprucing up your Irving home and preparing it for sale. And that includes tackling the floors.

The condition of your floors will be one of the first things buyers will likely notice. Are the carpets stained? Is the ceramic tile cracked? Is the linoleum discolored?
The Allure of Hardwood Floors
Buyers love hardwood floors. So take a peek underneath your carpeting and look for hardwood. If it’s there, remove those carpets and pay to refinish the floors. Otherwise, rent a carpet cleaner and go to town on stains.

Already have hardwood floors? Make sure they are in good condition and repair any minor damages. Anything more should be handled by a professional. Otherwise, consider refinishing so they look their best when open houses roll around.
Clean It, Toss It, Replace it!
If the carpet is dated, excessively worn or stained beyond repair, you may want to consider purchasing new carpet. If buyers are greeted at the front door with brand new carpeting, their perception of your home will likely be a positive one. Remember that no one wants to see your pet-stained carpets upon walking into your home. Bottom line: clean it up or replace it!
Easy Fixes for Linoleum and Ceramic Tile
Examine the other flooring throughout your home, as well, to determine if repairs need to be made. Replace chipped or cracked ceramic tiles and clean the grout. If the grout is badly stained, take the time and replace the grout. Clean grout lines can make an older floor look brand new.
Scrubbing linoleum in an attempt to clean ground-in dirt is usually a lost cause. Linoleum is an inexpensive flooring option that is easy to install. If in doubt, replace the linoleum and impress the buyers!
