Just some of the words which have been used to describe downtown Austin include casual, cosmopolitan, chic, fashionable and artistic. Whatever words are used, one thing’s for sure. This progressive area has plenty of excitement!
Downtown Austin’s Business Community
More than 6,000 people reside in downtown Austin, and daytime employees top out at nearly 90,000. Getting in and out of the city is no problem with plenty of bus routes through Capital Metro, efficient expressways and useful bicycle and pedestrian paths.
The success of Opportunity Austin, which was implemented in 1993 by the Economic Development Council of the Austin Chamber of Commerce, was an important catalyst for Austin. The program was designed to kick start the economy and create jobs. The overall goal was to attract new businesses, retain existing businesses and stimulate earnings.
Downtown Austin is now a thriving city which is home to many, top law firms, financial institutions, non-profit companies, technology companies and governmental agencies. It is also the world headquarters for Whole Foods Market, Silicon Labs and GSD & M.
Downtown Austin’s Entertainment Scene
Downtown Austin is brimming with fine restaurants, theaters, museums, world-class shopping, outdoor activities and an eclectic entertainment scene. More than 300 retailers provide residents and visitors alike with unique shopping opportunities.
Downtown Austin also has 20 museums, more than 125 restaurants, 50 art galleries and more than 60 live music venues.
Republic Square, Brush Square and Wooldridge Square were Austin’s first parks and are still enjoyed by many today. Other popular, outdoor attractions include the Lady Bird hike & bike trail, the Auditorium Shores and Zilker Park.
Austin also offers some of the finest public and private elementary and secondary schools, and has great residential choices – from single family homes to condos and townhomes – to accommodate its diverse population.

I enjoy following your blog! The Bend Oregon real estate market continues to be slow. It looks like and good time to buy in your area. I was born in Amarillo and moved to Oregon in 1962.

@ Jim, I understand, I would have left Amarillo too
Do you see the market picking up in your area anytime soon?

I think we need to add a mortgage section as well. Actually never even thought about it, until now.
