Beauty

You’re going to meet a new client for the first time. You’ve put on your best. You are polished, shined and ready for business. You arrive, ten minutes late, what the heck, it’s only ten minutes. What’s that out of your day?

The client lets you in and you set up your listing presentation. Then drat, it’s the cell phone. You take the call, holding up one finger for the ‘just a moment’ sign and argue for fifteen minutes over a contract point that has nothing to do with the client you are with, but that’s fine. It shows them that you are on the job, right?

Well now, wasn’t that pleasant?

Stop. Put down the cell phone and pay attention. This is Dallas, not Los Angeles. You are a Real Estate Agent, not a movie star booking agent. Do you really think the average client cares if your suit is Armani or JC Penney? They don’t, and here’s a clue for you: What they want is to know that you think they matter, that their home or their potential new home matter to you.

If you are running late take the extra minute and let them know. It will go a long way. It may be only ten minutes out of your day, but it is time out of their lives too. Give them that respect.

Turn off the cell phone! That’s what voice mail is for. No, really: That is what voice mail is FOR. Unless you are at the closing table and the call is about the closing you are currently in, you shouldn’t be answering. Think. Turn off the cell, and call them later.
